I'm wondering what roads or highways are the ones you would fall asleep on while driving.
Where there is literally nothing to look at but nature and not beautiful nature. The roads you would advise people to avoid at all costs if they can. US or elsewhere.
I'll give an example.
I-70 W or E through western Kansas.
350 miles of literally nothing to look at but fields. Between the Topeka, KS and the Colorado border there is 1 major town and I use 'major' loosely. Even if you count that town there is still 250 miles of NOTHING. The highway itself is in good condition and if you drive it at night it's not so bad. But if you can avoid it, do so.

You already provided the correct answer.

That one that goes across Australia. Also the road between Palmdale, CA and Edwards AFB.

That said, no one else would be on the road so you could probably just max your car and get away with it.

We know that, but they can try!

BTW State troopers LOVE interstates. Specially those on long stretches where there is nothing and you bump that cruise up another 5-10 mph. They also know if you are from out of state you are not coming back to fight the ticket.

Yep. I had this exact freeway in mind. Kansas City to Denver is hell. I was worried out of my mind when I drove it in my Porsche 944 this summer. One white knuckle experience with a tank running on fumes and no exits appearing on the GPS was enough to have me fill up at the quarter-tank mark whenever I could.

I-80. It's just like the Kansas route, except you're in Nebraska, which makes it even worse .

But I see trees! And elevation changes! And is that a curve on the horizon?

The eastern side isn't so bad, but it's the western side that will ruin you. The drive isn't terrible , it's the sights, people, and worry that if you run out of gas, you'll end up dead on the side of the road. It's also longer than Kansas by some amount.

Reminds me of a trip to Tenn once. Passed by a gas station at half tank figuring I would pass another before I was empty. When I came to an exit and I NEEDED gas the gas station was 10 miles off the exit and when I got to it - closed. Returned to the hwy and luckily 10 miles down the hwy there was one open just off the hwy. I was sweatin' bullets at 3am on that one. I was also in a 96 Dodge ram 4x4 with the 360 engine, so not like conservative was an option.

yup, checked in to say Kansas, 70, same thing

I think I-70 is the winner. You can drive it all day, and by the end feel like you haven't gone anywhere.

God, I'e driven I70 quite a few times for terrible reasons. I hate the stretch that goes east from Denver out through Kansas... I think I hit 110 once just so I could get off the highway faster. Cops can't hide in sage grass for a 2 mile straight stretch of road...

That sounds like West Tennessee. I grew up in West TN and now live in Middle TN (Nashville). So I'm familiar with most of I-40. And that sounds about right. I just never notice it because my travels are always within a tank's capacity from A to B.

Ontario`s Highway 416. 60 Miles of nothing, with hardly any traffic, and a grand total of 9 exits.

I-10 San Antonio to El Paso, TX. 550 miles. It literally takes all day to drive it, and you don't even get a state border to cross.

At least you can watch the mountains get closer?

I-80 through Iowa/Nebraska. 400 miles of the most boring state ever. Make it through, reach the border, YAY! 400 MILES OF AN EVEN MORE BORING STATE!
